Healthy Monsoon Hacks

Monsoons are fun only till you don’t fall sick. While we look forward to monsoons after an unrelenting summer heat, it also brings along contagious bacterial diseases with it. With a slight dip in immunity levels, be prepared to a host of flus and viral fever. To avoid this, you need to pay careful attention to what you eat. Here are some tips for healthy eating during monsoons.

No roadside food

Drop your plans of enjoying those roadside bhajjis and pakodas during monsoons. Resist your temptation to avoid food poisoning and water borne diseases. Instead when it pours, enjoy it with some adrakh chai and homemade pakodas.  Quick tip: Try shallow frying your quick bites instead of deep frying.

Include Warm liquids in your diet

During monsoons, one must not feel exceptionally thirsty and to overcome this, warm liquids are the best option. Green tea is filled with antioxidants, aids metabolism and also helps to combat bacterial contamination. Ginger tea, hibiscus or any fancy flower tea, doesn’t matter! Just keep sipping warm liquids and make the most of the beautiful cozy weather.

Avoid green leafy veggies

Yes. You heard us right. Reduce your green veggie intake during the monsoons. Why? Because vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, spinach are petri dishes of germs.  One must take care of eating not only fresh vegetables but must also thoroughly wash them before eating. Include more warm salads with boiled veggies as boiling veggies kills the bacteria and germ.

 Oh no fish

During monsoons, fishes in water bodies reproduce rapidly. Generally with the rise in bacteria in the water bodies, fish could be a poor dietary choice as it can spread disease on consumption. Worry not, you can consume flaxseed to compensate for the loss of omega 3 nutrient derived from Fish.

Stay hydrated

This is a no brainer. Staying hydrated is essential irrespective of climatic changes. Water helps in blood circulation as well maintaining immunity levels. Try incorporating more juices or add in some mint or fruits to add flavor to water.
