Sulekha - Way to go

Ishwar wouldn’t spam anybody’s mailbox without a proper reason. So when I saw a website recommendation in my inbox from Ishwar back in 1999, I was like – “Ok, let us see what this is all about.”

The name of this site was interesting. “Good Writing”. I had been trying to write something good since times immemorial. This could actually help me. So I typed www.sulekha.com in my browser address bar.

Thus born “The Guy From Pogathota” who was instantly hooked to Sulekha Coffeehouse. It has been a roller coaster ride ever since that moment. Guy From Pogathota morphed into Piscean From Pogathota (Thanks to Ruby) – PFP and finally Platypus.

Sulekha, meanwhile grew from “What? Sulekha? What is it? Are you Sure it is not Surekha, my next door neighbor?” to “Sulekha? Yeah! They sell movie tickets right?”

I remember the day Satya Prabhakar called me when I was in Sunnyvale. We talked about a lot of stuff. Then, I couldn’t foresee the popularity Sulekha is currently enjoying. In Chennai, the MTC bus 19G has an advertisement – Sulekha movies. Today morning, there was a new “Classifieds” paper at my doorstep -> Sulekha Classifieds. Adyar Times will have to compete with Sulekha now.

Kudos Satya, Sangeetha… You have done it. From a noname to a well established brand… Your business model is definitely worth it. Why don’t you chronicle your experiences related to Sulekha and publish a “Who Says Used Books Can’t Dance?”

I bet there would be at least one buyer for that book.

Alright! That comment is totally uncalled for. I agree. But probably you can now afford new books as prizes. Right? When is Sulekha Select Part Deux releasing.

And pray tell me! What happened to “Write Angle”?
