Weirdest Laws In India!

India is one of the biggest democracies in the world. But we do have our fair share of stupidity when it comes to having weird, unnecessary laws. Let’s have a look at some of the “crimes” in India that you could actually go to jail for.

Old enough to marry, but not to drink

Laws in India state that the minimum age to get married is 18, but most of the states in India have a legal drinking age of 21. Maharashtra goes one step further by extending the legal drinking age to 25. Makes total sense, doesn’t it?

Alcohol cannot be Home-Delivered

A law in Maharashtra prohibits alcohol from being home delivered. However, you can still get wine and beer home-delivered from supermarkets. Wat.

Suicide is legal, attempting is not

So the law states that there’s no problem committing suicide but hey, good news, if you fail at it and survive, you’re going to jail for not doing it right. Gee, thanks, government.

Motor Vehicle Inspection and Good Teeth

If you wanna end up being a motor vehicle Inspector in Andhra Pradesh, you better have your teeth set straight! Yes, there’s actually a law that states that only people with good and strong teeth can only become inspectors. Very relevant skill, indeed.

Law of Adultery

The Adultery Law in India states that a man can be jailed for committing adultery but a woman can get away with as many extra-marital as she wants, unharmed. Double standards much?

Did you just say !@## ?

Yeah, you could be punished even for that. Public display of affection: As per the Section 294 of the IPC whoever acts obscene in public areas is punishable. That means no PDA, too. Way to go, “modernized” India!

Find yourself committing any of the unforgivable sins stated above? Worry not. Call your own lawyer here!
