An Interview With Shobhit Arora From World Art Community

Monica 9 years ago

Every day cannot end up with our daily chores, so I thought of adding some spice to it so that it looks something unique. Hence, I quested on some interesting sites on arts and crafts in India, it was really amazing than I thought. Every business has its own uniqueness and everyday people upgrade to trendy features. I was impressed by the ‘Worldartcommunity.com’ an e-commerce site started by Shobhit Arora. This was exclusively dedicated to arts and design! The collections were extraordinary, which then inspired me to talk to the person regarding his business. I started sending mails and to my surprise, I got an instant reply from the CEO.

How it was started?

“Shobhit Arora, a down-to-earth person, who after completing his mechanical engineering in IIT, shifted his career to marketing. Hence, he joined Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies. Later, he worked in several concerns as sales head, marketing head and gained about 14+ years of expertise in his management field. In spite of a rapid career growth and holding senior positions in MNCs, there was a constant urge to create an organization with a sense of purpose and making a difference to people’s lives, a model that was scalable and resonated with the growing trends  and hence ‘World Art Community’ was established”

The interview was very simple and he was really interested in answering my questions. See how it went!

1. What does art mean to you?

Art in my mind is quite simply creative expression of an artist’s imagination. It should not be restricted in any manner to the medium. Hence, we molded our site into various categories right from arts to lifestyle creations.

2. What inspired you to start an online shopping site?

I realized that creativity is an element that defines what we seek in our lives – and yet doesn’t find its logical fulfilment due to our limitations. I saw creators of art searching desperately for ways to pursue their passion and some struggling to make a career out of their passion. Their resources were limited but the opportunity was not. With immense support from like-minded people who were passionate about supporting our cause. Thus, WorldArtCommunity was born.

3. How big is your community?

We have over 1000 partner artists and designers who are using our platform to reach out to the audience. Our platform has exhibited many talents to the world and diverse artists have created partnership with us.

4. How do you choose the artists and designers?

In a short span of time, we’re relatively well known community in the artists and designers circuit. We do receive queries on a daily basis to register with us for selling their works. Besides, we have a merchandising team which is proactively looking for emerging talent in the market either through their digital presence or through offline exhibitions. We also have a team of designers who review each request that we receive in terms of the creative threshold and alignment with the existing offerings that we have on the platform.

5. What are the diverse categories you have on your site?

We span across fine art to lifestyle which includes – Paintings, Photography, Sculptures, Pottery, Apparel, Accessories and Home Décor

6. Do you offer any discounts for festive seasons?

We are a peer to peer platform where artists and designers control their pricing. They have complete control on the promotions. We do have some of our partner artists offering festive discounts currently.

7. What is the base to start an online start? Is it creativity or marketing strategy?

I think it’s a combination. One has to be innovative, try multiple approaches as one moves forward. Guess the most important is the vision which should be clearly defined; the path is carved out by itself with sheer persistence and hard work.

8. Amidst the technology enhancements, what do you think about social media? And how it helps to augment your business?

Social media is an integral part of our outreach strategy. The great part is every artist, every designer and every product has a story. We use social media extensively to share the stories which people love to engage with. Our Facebook fan base itself is 66,000+.

9. How you target the customers?

In the segment of art and lifestyle products, women are clearly the key decision makers and our customer base is largely women across different age groups.

10. What is the uniqueness of your business?

Being a peer to peer marketplace where artists and designers directly sell their unique creations. Artists and designers completely control their online presence on the platform to the extent of look and feel of their shop, pricing, promotions, inventory management, and social media linkages. Buyers get access to one-of-a-kind creations directly from the creators which by itself produced added advantage of better pricing.

He was unique and genuine in answering all the questions with utmost patience. He will definitely be an inspiration for young business minds!
