IBPS Bank Clerk Exam Pattern and Tips

The Common Written Exams (CWE - 2013) conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) will be held on 30th Nov, 1st Dec, 7th Dec, 8th Dec, 14th Dec, and 15th Dec 2013.

The CWE is held for recruitment in Clerical Cadre in Public Sector Banks. As the approaching exam is one of national level, candidates are obviously pretty tensed up. Here are some tips to brace up for the IPBS Bank Clerk Exam!

Exam Pattern

The CWE is an objective type exam of 2 hours duration and 200 marks. It has Negative Marking; 0.25 marks will be deducted for every wrong answer.

You can attend this exam either in English or Hindi; apart from the English Language section, of course.

Test of Reasoning

This section is designed to assess your logical reasoning or analytical ability. Questions are usually asked on Analogy, Classification, Syllogism, Input-Output, Inferences etc. You can prepare for this part by solving quizzes and puzzles of various kinds.

Test of English Language

This section tests your English comprehension and communication skills. You will have to answer questions that cover Grammar, Sentence Completion, Vocabulary, Synonyms, Antonyms, Comprehension Passage, etc. You can prepare for this part by brushing up on grammar using school text books.

Test of Numerical Ability

This section tests how fast you are in computations and numbers. Questions are asked on Quantitative Reasoning, Arithmetical Reasoning, Interpretation of Graphs and Tables, Approximation, Simplification, Averages, Profit & Loss etc. Being prepared on basic calculations and math principles will suffice, but speed of answering the questions is also important. You will have to work on your approximation skills, as this will help in answering the Multiple Choice Questions.

Test of General Awareness (relevant to Banking Industry)

The General Awareness part tests your acquaintance with recent developments in the Banking Industry. You can expect questions on the Indian Banking System, Budgeting & Financial Planning, National and Global Banking organizations, and the like. To prepare for this part of the exam, you will have to keep yourself updated on all the latest happenings in the Banking industry.

Test of Computer Knowledge

This is a section that can get you the maximum marks. Questions asked in the Computer Knowledge section typically cover the basic concepts of Computer Science. To be prepared for this part of the exam, you should brush up on Computer Structure, Networks, Languages, Parts, the World Wide Web, etc. You should also keep yourself updated on latest developments in the world of Computer Technology to score well in this section. You can use any standard, school-level Computer Science text book for preparation.
