A Telugu bride is usually a vision in bright saris, heavy jewelry and makeup that compliments the look. The bride and her complete wedding look is given a lot of significance. The bridal trousseau is put together after weeks of planning and hunting for the most beautiful pieces. There are various ceremonies such as Nischitartham, Mangala Snaanam, reception etc. which requires the bride to wear different types of outfits. Sari is the most popular choice for most of the occasions.

Bridal Outfits

The traditional Telugu bridal sari would be off white with red zari border. Brides these days choose to wear a grander versions of this sari with ornate blouses. Bright Dharmavaram saris with heavily embroidered saris are also a favorite with these brides. Venkatagiri, Gadwal, Pochampally etc. are also popular amongst this community.

A traditional bride enters the mandap in a basket carried by her uncles. While this was earlier a basic bamboo basket, these days, this basket is also customized according to the bride’s outfit.
