The four basic carpet fibers are Nylon, PTT, Polyester and Polypropylene used to manufacture today’s carpets.
- Nylon is the most widely used carpet fiber and is available in both loop pile as well as cut pile styles.
- Polyester or PET fibers are not as versatile as nylon fiber but perform very well. It is a natural stain and fade resistant, and provide luxurious color clarity as well as softness to the carpet.
- PTT fibers boast good resilience and excellent stain resistance, but they are not preferred in high-traffic areas.
- Polypropylene or olefin fibers do not absorb water quickly, so the color is actually built into its fiber when it’s made; thus, its color will not fade with time.
