In today’s world, securing an admission into a premier institution is by no means an easy task. With lakhs of candidates appearing for these exams, the competition is humongous.  The increase in the competition has led an escalation of the difficulty level in these exams.

UPSC - Civil Services Exam

The Union Public Service Commission or commonly known as the Civil Services exam is considered to be one the hardest exams to crack in the world. The exam is conducted throughout India by the Union Public Service Commission. The civil services exam is in written format and has 9 papers in total out of which 2 are preliminary examinations which focus on general studies and aptitude test. The main papers test students in topics such as Indian heritage, technology, ethics, disaster management, constitution etc. Apart from a written examination, there is a personality test in which the candidate is interviewed. Cracking the CSE would mean enrollment in various civil services such as IAS, IFS, IPS, IRS to name a few. The whole process of completing the CSE takes around a year

Success Rate: The CSE has an achievement rate of 0.1%-0.3% with almost 13 lakh candidates registering for the exam and only 0.03% get the prestigious IAS position.

IIT-JEE

The Indian Institute of Technology is the dream destination for any student in the engineering and to get into these prestigious colleges one has to crack to the IIT-JEE. The IIT-JEE is considered to be one of the hardest exams in the engineering stream and is conducted once every year by different IIT's in a round robin manner. The IIT has two papers which tests the candidate’s knowledge in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur are considered the best in the lot.

Success Rate: The acceptance rate to the IIT's are only 7 %. Out of the 1.4 lakh students who appear only 9700 make to the IIT.

GATE - Graduate Aptitude Examination.

GATE exam is conducted by the different IIT's and IIS. This exam serves as the primary criteria for students who wish to study their ME/M.Tech in the IIT's. GATE scores are also considered for candidates who get selected for Public Sector Undertaken companies which function under the Indian Government. GATE exams tests the students on their undergraduate subjects in engineering and science. GATE has 23 different papers which focus on various streams and a student is allowed to take only 1 of those 23 papers each year.

Success Rate: It is considered as one of the most competitive exams in India with over 10 lakh candidates every year with a success rate of 15%.

CAT-Computer Based Aptitude Exam

CAT is a computer based aptitude test in which tests the students in areas like quantitative capacity, verbal capacity, logical reasoning and data interpretation skills. The CAT examination is conducted by the Indian Institute of Management for admissions to their business programs. Other popular colleges like S.P.Jain, IMT and Business programs in BITS accept CAT scores.

Success Rate: With almost 2.1 Lakh people appearing for CAT, it remains as the most competitive exam for admission to business programs in India. Out of the 2.1 lakh candidates, only 3000 students secure seats in the IIMs

AIIMS Entrance Exam

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences is an autonomous institution and offers medical degrees for the students. The qualifications are recognized by the All India Institute of Medical Science Act. The AIIMS Exam paper consists of 200 objective questions. Physics, chemistry, biology and general knowledge are the area’s covered in the examination.

Success Rate: Out of the 2 Lakh candidates that appear for this exam every year only 672 secure themselves a seat across the 7 AIIMS.
