Which Type Of Curtain Should You Go For?

Curtains! Damask, plaid, solid, ombré, cotton, silk, velvet, fuchsia, sea blues, fawn and beiges – there are a million varieties to choose from. Haven’t you gotten an idea yet? Sheer ones, thick ones, semi-sheered - are you a beginner at curtainology? (There’s no such word, FYI).

Oh, and you know what? Plaids and checks are completely different patterns. Had no idea about this? Don’t even know what plaids are? Then give a read below to make a clear cut decision on which type of curtain you should choose for your home!

Ombrés are in!

The high demand right now is ombré drapes and it’s always a great option to go for what’s ruling the roost currently. The ombré shades can either be a mix of white and your wall colour or two contrasting colours. But make sure the darker shade is at the bottom of the drape as the lower part will be more prone to wear and tear than the upper part.

Escape from the solid life

Flowers and patterns are great especially when you have a compact house. Right usage of patterns and solids all over your house may be a great way to make your house look more spacious and organised. If you have a huge hall and a small bedroom, go for solid coloured curtains for your bedrooms and patterned/flowery designed curtains for your living room. Mix and match can be fun too!

Nudes and whites always work

Choose beige and taupe colours over bright hues of yellow and orange. This will help in establishing a cool, soothing as well as an elegant look for your house. While beiges and nudes can be solid, make sure your white curtains have some intricate designed – either self-toned or a different tone. Always remember, light colours are always a good option when you want to make your house look bright and big.

Velvet is a way to go

The soft, silky material, all though costs a little more than the other curtains will certainly be worth the price. They will not get crumply and you can hang them for more than a month! Also, the velvetiness helps you get rid of damp and cold temperatures. Velvets are best suited for monsoon and winter climates. Also, the shelf life of velvet and faux silk drape materials are much longer than the other tapestries.

Stripes and checks are never too old

Stripes and checks breathe life into your room. How, you ask? It is scientifically proven! Using patterned or striped wall curtains are much better than solid shades as they give out the feeling of cosiness and warmth. Chequered draperies are also good to go as they come in cotton materials and are easily washable. Good for summers! Dark plaids also have the ability add elegance to the room they are hung in.
