IITians Who Made It Really Big

The routine question every student hears after completing 12th standard – “What’s next?” One of the most confusing stages in a students’ life is to enter the next phase of life that’s going to build his/her future career. Everyone will expect to enter the most reputed institutions in India and IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) is one among them. The Indian Institute of Technology popularly called IITs have produced some of the finest and successful individuals in various fields including arts and academics.

Let us have a look at some of the most successful IIT alumni who have cracked JEE exams and made it large in their lives and contributed to the development of India or the world, as a whole: 

Chetan Bhagat

A very famous and popular Indian writer, Chetan Bhagat is known for his bestselling novels about young urban middle-class Indians. If you enjoy reading gossips, relationship and family stories, then Chetan Bhagat stories are a must! But if you look into Chetan’s history, you will be really surprised! He is an Engineer from IIT Delhi and has an MBA from IIM Ahmedabad. A very successful and talented author of some bestselling and internationally popular novels. Five Point Someone and One Night @ the Call Center, the two of his masterpieces have already been made into quite successful Bollywood movies – ‘3 Idiots’ and ‘Hello,’ respectively. Chetan Bhagat – a brainy IITian turned author, popular in the entertainment industry!

Pichai Sundararajan

Popularly known by the name of Sundar Pichai who is an Indian businessman and a Senior Vice President at Google, where he oversees Android, Chrome, and Google Apps. Indeed a great achievement! Well, he earned his Bachelor of Engineering degree from IIT Kharagpur in Metallurgical Engineering. Later he did his M.S. from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar. Hard work, passion, and talent has led him to great heights in the IT world!

Padmasree Warrior

Let’s go back to one of the senior most IIT Alumni who is now Cisco’s Chief Technology and Strategy Officer. Padmasree Warrior received her Bachelor’s Degree in chemical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 1982. She has served as the former CTO of Motorola Inc. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from the Cornell University. Apart from this, Forbes has recognized Padmasree Warrior as the 71st most powerful woman in the world in 2014. She has been called one of the four rising stars on Fortune Magazine’s Most Powerful Women list.

Arvind Kejriwal 

Who doesn’t know of Arvind Kejriwal? Yes! An Indian politician and the honorable Chief Minister of Delhi is a pass-out from the prestigious IIT-Kharagpur. He has also worked in the Indian Revenue Services as a Joint Commissioner of the Income Tax Department in New Delhi. He entered into civil services by launching Aam Aadmi Party in 2012. He is recognized and famous for his involvement in the grassroots movement in a widely popular campaign against corruption. Seeing his achievements, it is very clearly noticeable that IITians have also produced good and strong leaders for the development of the country!

Sarita Adve

No wonder, IITs have also proved to produce best academicians in the world as well! Sarita Adve received her B.Tech. Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay in 1987. She is now a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. One of her most significant research contributions is in the areas of memory consistency models for multiprocessors. She received an IBM faculty award in 2005, an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship in 1998 and also National Science Foundation Career award in 1995.
