By understanding the target audience, a TV anchor holds the responsibility of conveying the important information to the viewers and seek their attention.

Command over the language

Whatever the situation may be, a TV anchor should always be ready and spontaneous while speaking in front of the camera. The information given by TV anchor is spread across all the viewers. Having good language skills with a good sense of grammar, tone, pronunciation of words will help in delivering the information promptly.

Mastery of multitasking

If you see the TV, you might have noticed anchors having an ear piece. Those are nothing but the producer's instructions to the anchor who has to clearly replicate the information without showing off their tension or confusion in the face. It's definitely a multitasking job which needs to be done by cooperating with many other departments. While doing a live telecast, the presenters will be receiving simultaneous information from social media posts, statistical data, the producer will be directing the anchor to control the audience, camera man will be instructing the position, etc. For all these, spontaneity and multitasking are the most important and necessary skills!

A good team player

Television shootings involve a lot of process and usage of technology. Anchoring is just the part of the whole process but it is very important for an anchor to understand and coordinate with all instructions given by the technicians. From the make-up man to the cameraman, director, producer, assistants, every person in the team will share their suggestions to receive the best output from various perspectives. An anchor should have the ability to roll with changes and glitches, and anticipate the actions of all other professionals involved.

Proper use of time

In a live show, have you noticed the anchor giving immediate comments over people’s question at the right time? A good timing sense is a must for an anchor. And also if the anchor is left with 5 minutes in the programme and has a lot of information to share, he/she should be able to convey the essential particulars, the target audience will look for in the time given. Overall, an anchor must have the knack to condense or expand one's speech on demand, to sense when a story needs refreshing or recapping, to know without even looking at a clock how many words are needed to fill the minute while awaiting a satellite window, live feed or interviewee.
