Skin Safety and Hot Weather

In summers sun damages the skin due to solar radiation. Skin conditions can be aggravated in hot summers. Eczema, sun burns, reactions, redness, allergies, sweating and acne are most common skin problems in summers. To prevent it is important to follow an active skin care regime. You should wash your skin twice daily that will help to guard skin against irritation. Keep your skin dry and clean. Wear lose and sweat soaking fabrics and wear oil-free sunscreen. Limit your sun exposure from 10 am to 4 pm.  

Below are few skin safety tips for this summer’s-

•    Always take a cold shower before you go out in hot sun. This will help in lowering your skin temperature which will help you to stand the heat a little longer. You can also wet your hair with cold water or wet towel before you move out to avoid heat stroke.

•    Sunburn is the major concern during hot summers. Keep the affected area cool by applying Aloe that will help in relieving pain. It is important to apply moisturizer while skin heals from the sun burn. Wear a light fabric long sleeves shirts or shrugs to prevent from sunburn. Tight and dark clothing absorb the sun's light and heat. Apply SPF 15 or higher sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage.  Tanning and sunburn can cause aging skin and skin cancer.Consult a dermatologist immediately for the solution if the skin is exposed and damaged badly due to heat.  

•    Protect your eyes and head by wearing a hat and a pair of sun glasses. Wearing sunglasses also helps to prevent headaches that come from squinting and hot sun rays.

•    Keep yourself hydrated by drinking 8-10 glass of water every day. If you are going out carry a small bottle and keep on sipping water in regular intervals of time. Drink fluids while you are out in hot sun. Sweating causes loss of electrolytes that need to be replenished regularly. Reduce the intake of caffeine and alcohol as they dehydration your skin and body in summers.

•    Eat healthy to avoid breakouts. Too much oily and fried food in summers can cause breakouts and acnes. Have safe food.  Restrict junk food and focus more on the fresh summer fruits, vegetables and lean protein. You can also increase intakes of fluids in your diet. Increase the intake of a drink with carbohydrates and electrolytes if possible.

Last but not the least - “Stay in and stay cool”. Try to stay indoors. Avoid sun exposure between 11 am to 3 pm.
