Overcome Home Sickness while Studying Abroad

Finally, you are done with the admission formalities and about to step into the new college premises abroad.  While the new excitements and aspirations push you from the within, you might also experience a sort of emotional vacuum inside you – call it the home sickness! Self cooked food will remind mama’s delicacies; being alone might make you yearn more for your family and friends. At this point, you will have to understand this is not the end of world and you are going to come over it simply!

1. Keep in Touch – This will sound simple yet the best solution to beat your home sickness. Keep in touch with your loved ones on a regular basis via Skype and Face Book etc. Update them with what’s happening at your end and also get to know things from them to feel at home. This should not carry you away from your aspirations. Remember!

2. Carry those Stuffs which will make you close with your Home – Things like your family photograph, a cuddly toy or even a bed linen can make you feel at home. Worth a try!

3. Avoid Loneliness - Try finding new friends to avoid solitude and preoccupation.  When you have a company, you can share your thoughts with them, however, be careful while picking friends in your new place.

4.  Why don’t you Blog – Blogging can be a vent to you; try it out. Keep writing about the new place, university and friends. In this way, you will also develop more liking towards your new place.

5. Listen to Music – Music can soothe you in the best way. Get cheered up with peppy music to recharge your energy molecules, when beaten up with home sickness. Melancholic music can add up to your agony. Beware!

These things can go a long way in helping you cope up with your home sickness. When not dealt with properly, homesickness can be great hindrance for your academic accomplishments. So, it is better to come over it at the earliest. Good luck!
