Colorful Crayon Hearts to Surprise Your Valentine

I recently attended a workshop on making crayon hearts. And, I found the little waxen wonders, which we had learnt to make at the end of the workshop, to be the most colourful, creative and perfect ways to surprise one’s partner this Valentine’s Day. I am sure kids too will enjoy getting their hands dirty with this project. So, in this blog, I tell you how you can go about making your own crayon hearts. If you think hearts are too sappy, choose a mould that is shaped to your liking.

Things you’ll need

-       Crayons. You can use old broken crayons

-       Scrap paper. You can use different patterned papers.

-       Baking heart-shaped moulds

-       Double-sided foam mounting tape

-       Colored paper

-       Marker to write your message of love

Steps

-       Peel the paper off the crayons and cut them up into small pieces. Make sure the pieces are very small so that they melt easily and quickly. You can use a big knife to chop them. (Kids, please be careful while doing this.)

-       Now, transfer all the crayon pieces into the mould, and bake at 230 degrees for 15 minutes, until all the crayons have melted.

-       Once cool, remove the hearts and keep them aside.

-       With the help of scissors, cut the patterned paper into heart shapes of different sizes. Cut the coloured paper into small circles.

-       Next, paste the crayon hearts- with the help of the double tape- onto the heart-shaped and circular papers. You can attach ribbon for added effect.

-       Write a cute Valentine's Day message around the heart. You can also decorate with different studs, sequins, glitter and the like.

-       Now, for the most exciting part. Surprise your Valentine by placing these cute creations in the unlikeliest of the places… perhaps on the spokes of his bike wheel or inside her closet.
