Then the bride and groom repeat prayers chanted by the priest in which they promise to be humble and faithful to each other and God. The groom takes the hand of the bride and announces that they are husband and wife. Then the bride takes the groom’s hand and they pour rice into the sacred fire. The bride climbs over a stone to show her conviction to carry out the duties of a bride and future mother. As a symbol of the union, the groom’s scarf is tied with the bride’s dress and they make seven rounds around the fire to signify a lasting companionship.
