Sampada Pillai having specialized in Kathak (Indian Classical Dance) has taught over 20 years with experience in creating, composing and choreographing Kathak content, syllabi, theory and preparing students for competitive exams. Having a strong training in the Guru - Shishya Parampara her style is a synthesis of both Lucknow and Jaipur gharanas. The style and technique comprises the strong footworks, expansive and lengthy rhythmic pieces, layakaris of Jaipur and the detailed abhinaya and use of ‘ang’ of Lucknow gharanas. Knowledge and practice of traditional compositions handed down in generations of the gharanas and new creations without stepping out of the tradition. Extremely sound and well versed in the theoretical aspects of Kathak having conducted classes in practical and theory for a number of Kathak dancers in Bangalore to assist them in their Alankar examinations.
