Common Competitive Entrance Exams For Abroad Studies!

Hundreds of students migrate, every year, to various parts of the world to chase their dreams. If you are one of them and you have decided to go abroad to pursue your bachelor’s or master’s degree, it’s indeed a great choice. Studying abroad at the undergraduate level lays foundation for higher studies and further achievements. A foreign exposure at this stage renders the much needed compatibility and molds you as a person. Studying abroad at the postgraduate level shapes your mind and paves a smooth career path. Additionally, a degree from a university abroad adds extra credits to your profile and amps up your resume. While the scene globally has changed tremendously to accommodate students, some academic standards needs to be met in order to get admissions. Given below is a list of common competitive entrance exams which are prerequisites for admissions into colleges abroad. 

SAT- Scholarship Aptitude Test (SAT) is a standardized test, used for selection of undergraduate applicants by the universities and colleges in the US. Your verbal and math skills are tested in this exam. There are 7 SAT dates every year and there’s no limitation on the number of times one can take this up.

GMAT- Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is a computer-adaptive exam to test your mathematical and English efficiency for postgraduate business studies. This test consists of four sessions: analytical writing, integrated reasoning, quantitative section, and verbal ability. It’s conducted all year round and one can take up the exam every 16 days for a maximum of five times a year. Over 114 countries accept GMAT scores including the prominent ones - the US, UK, Singapore, Canada etc.

GRE- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is expected of applicants to graduate in fields other than business, law, and medicine. This computerized exam is offered year-round and tests your verbal, quantitative and analytical reasoning skills. Apart from USA, the top universities in UK, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, Canada, Taiwan, Japan, and many more countries accept GRE scores.

TOEFL- 130 countries, including countries like the US, UK, Canada etc. accept Test Of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) for admission purposes. This test requires skills like reading, listening, speaking and writing of the English language. It happens more than 50 times a year and there’s no limit to the number of times one can take the test. But one cannot take it up more than once in a 12 day period.

IELTS- International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is used to assess the language ability of non-native speakers of English across sessions like listening, reading, writing, and speaking. It can be used for study, work, and migration purposes in countries like UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand etc. Depending on local demand, IELTS is conducted on 48 dates a year, up to four times a month.

PTE- Pearson Language Exam is a computerized English test that is used for studying abroad and migration purposes. It’s divided into three sections: speaking & writing, reading, and listening. The scores are widely accepted in the US, UK and Australia. Apart from these, 45 other countries also accept this score. There’s absolutely no limit to the number of times you can take up this test.
