Vastu is an ancient Indian architectural science that comes in line with the natural forces. Vastu is a Sanskrit word which means a dwelling place and sastra means system. The vastu principles aim at coordination of 5 elements of earth and natural forces like solar and magnetic power with the human life.

It is important to know the organic flow of directions to understand the principles of vastu.

East – Access of sunlight

East is considered as a direction that allows positive energy into your house. It represents the early sunrays that provide physical and mental health benefits. Windows and open spaces are encouraged.

West – Direction of winds

In tropical countries, winds pass through west, northwest and southwest directions Wind is a dust carrier and openings in the west may lead to airborne diseases.

South & North – Receiver of maximum and minimum solar radiation

As we are in the tropical region south, southeast and southwest directions receive maximum solar radiation and vise-versa. So, thick walls are built in south direction.

It takes huge time and energy to explain all the principles of vastu. However, you can find information about the fundamental principles. Here are five basic principles for home or workplace

Site orientation – Diknirnaya

It is the technical procedure to identify cardinal points of the plot. It is done in the center of the plot to find all the 8 directions during those days.

Site planning – Vaastu Purusha Mandala.

This is the building plan that shows the ideal positions for each part of the house.

  • Entrance Doors and Windows at East

East facing houses are predominantly known for generating positive vibes. They are exposed to the early sun which is a source of vitamin D from beneficial ultraviolet rays

  • Puja Rooms at Northeast corner (Esanya)

At Brahma Muhurta (3 am – 6 am), the sun is in this northeast direction which is the best place perform yoga, meditation and other activities associated with education.

  • The Kitchen at Southeast corner (Agneya)

Between 7 and 9 am, the sun reaches this direction to provide natural light to the kitchen. This helps keep them free from germs.

  • Master bedroom, Wardrobes at Southwest

This is the ideal place for a good sleep. It is necessary to sleep with your head facing south. This enhances the magnetic influence from the earth’s northern hemisphere. When you sleep with head towards the north it affects your heartbeat rate and leads to a disturbed sleep.

  • Treasure and Living room at North (Kuber)

Valuables need to be placed in this direction to increase prosperity and wealth for your house.

Proportions of the building – Maana

The measurements of height, breadth, width, thickness, and interspace are calculated in Angula (3/4th. of an inch) and Hasta (18 inches) to get proportionate ratios. The ratio of height to length is expected to be from 1-2 to create a strong and attractive building.

Dimensions of the building – Aayadi

There are 6 formulae to calculate the proportion of the building. They are Yoni, Vyaya, Aaya, Raksha, Vara, and Tithi.

  • Yoni and Vyaya are used to calculate breadth
  • Aaya and Raksha to calculate the length
  • Vara and Tithi for height.

Aesthetics of the building – Chanda

Chanda means beauty which denotes the elevation of the building. The examples of buildings that follow these Chanda can explain a lot.

  • Meru Chanda – temples of India (Mahabalipuram seashore temple)
  • Khanda Meru Chanda - Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai
  • Pataaka Chanda – Throne pillar in UP, India
  • Sushi Chanda - Burj Khalifa towers in Dubai
  • Uddista Chanda & Nasta Chanda are independent of calculations.

Even Giza pyramids face north. This helps these pyramids to stand strong even after so many decades through terrific natural calamities. Make use of this superstitious and scientific technique to attract positivity to your house. Get in touch with our best vastu consultants near your home.
