Scholastic Aptitude Test or more popularly known as SAT is a globally recognized test for admissions to colleges abroad. This test is held by the College Board for high school students and almost all institutions in the USA require this for admission decisions.

Topics in SAT

The SAT exam focuses on skills taught in a high school such as reading, writing, and math.  The sections in the SAT exam are as follows:

  • A reading section with passages and sentence completion questions to help evaluate how much the reader has understood
  • A writing section which will evaluate a candidates skill to write essays and being able to identify errors in multiple choice questions

Examination Duration

SAT Scores

Candidates will be scored out of 2400 with 3 main topics (mathematics, reading, and writing). Each topic will be scored between 200 to 800 points. The essay is scored on a scale of 2 to 12 and the multiple choice section is scored on a scale of 20 to 80

SAT Subject Tests

Apart from the common SAT exam, students have the opportunity to take up SAT subject tests which allow students to focus on a subject of their liking from school. Most of the colleges prioritize SAT subject tests to provide admissions and course placements. The SAT subject tests an hour-long exam and is scored out of a total of 800. SAT Schedule

The SAT exam is held 6 times each year in India. The SAT exams happen during the months of:

  • January
  • May
  • June
  • October
  • November
  • December

While attempting the SAT exam, do make note that each student can also attempt up to 3 SAT subject tests on a single day.
