B.Ed as Distance Education
B Ed is the most preferred degree courses among candidates, as it makes them eligible for a teacher’s position. Moreover, with the amendments in 6th pay commission, the pay-scale of this profession has improved tremendously. This is a two-year degree course, which can be pursued after graduation. Although, one can obtain the degree through regular colleges, a number of universities & colleges also offer B. Ed via distance learning.
Distance education is a great option for teachers in service, as they can obtain the degree at lesser cost as compared to regular programs. While opting for B. Ed through correspondence, it is vital to choose a university or college that fulfills NCTE norms.
Eligibility
- Pass in graduate degree under 11 + 1 + 3 or 10 + 2 + 3 pattern with subjects Mathematics, Computer Science, Applied Chemistry, Physics, English, Chemistry, Bio-chemistry, Micro-Biology, Geography, History, Zoology, Botany, and Applied Physics.
- In the matter of Economics subjects, Home Science and Commerce only Post Graduation qualification are considered
- A candidate with direct U. G. Degree that is, without + 2 qualification or those with a direct degree in Post Graduation without U. G. Degree are not eligible for the course.
- Candidates with cross-major subjects in the Post Graduate Degree course are not eligible
- It is mandatory to pass in written entrance examination to get admission
- Regular teachers working in higher, secondary, middle or primary schools are also eligible

Fee Range
The fee is Rs. 55,000 per year (This includes Tuition fee, Lab fee, Teaching Practice fee Etc.,)
Exam Pattern
- The written test includes 100 objective-type questions.
- The time allotted for the written exam is 90 minutes
- The Exam consists of 3 main sections - General English (20 marks), Teaching Aptitude and General Awareness (20 marks) and the last section is related to the subject of specialization.
- There are 60 questions and each question carries one mark. The subject areas covered are: Social Studies (60 marks), Physical Science (60 marks), English (60 marks), Biological Science (60 marks)
Teaching Methodology
In distance learning, the methodology of teaching is quite different from the traditional one.
- Specific emphasis is given to self-study
- The learning process is through printed materials and SIM (Self-Instructional Materials) that are adopted from IGNOU
- There is no face-to-face communication
- Contact Programmes are arranged at various study centers by the universities.
