Best US Colleges and the ones to avoid, according to Forbes India Magazine
Students put a lot of money and time into searching for the right institution in the US for higher education. Being aware of the wrong institutions is as important as spotting the best ones. In a recent article, Forbes India magazine listed the top colleges in the US and also mentioned the names of a few deceptive institutions. This article appeared in the August 23, 2013 issue of Forbes India.
The number one position on the list is taken by Stanford University this year. The institution at number two spot is Pomona College, Claremont, CA.
Other colleges within the top 10 positions are Princeton (Rank 3), Yale (Rank 4), Columbia University (Rank 5), Swarthmore University (Rank 6), United States Military Academy (Rank 7), Harvard (Rank 8), Williams College (Rank 9) and MIT (Rank 10). Apart from these, the article has listed other institutions that fall in the top 300 list.
The complete top colleges list is also available on www.forbes.com.
The various ranking factors that were used to arrive at this list include Student Satisfaction, Post-Graduate Success, Student Debt, Four year Graduation Rate, and Academic Success.
Apart from suggesting the names of top colleges, the article also warns of some institutions that are allegedly untrustworthy. The article talks about a few institutions that will do anything to boost their rankings. Four institutions have been highlighted as schools that lied to federal government within the last four years on the quality of their student bodies. The names of the colleges are: Bucknell University, Claremont Mckenna College, Emory University and Iona College.
As a penalty for their lying, Forbes has announced that it is has removed these four institutions from its list of top schools. The magazine has also warned that it is on the hunt for other institutions that are employing fraudulent means to boost rankings.
There are also many bogus universities on the prowl. These fake universities make false claims and cheat innocent students. So, whatever the course you are applying for, make sure you check the reputation of the college before admission. You don’t want to waste your time and your dad’s hard-earned money on low-quality colleges in the US, do you?
