Being multilingual and well versed in several cultural and sociological factors, Dr Purnima combines conventional therapies such as drug therapies with unique counselling and psychotherapeutic techniques. In a country like India where several taboos exist while dealing with psychological illness, Dr Purnima has conducted several awareness drives to familiarise the layperson with common psychiatric and psychological ailments. She is currently involved with several media houses in busting common myths and encourages people to come forward and deal with psychological illnesses as they would any other. Prerana Special School, is a non-profit, non-governmental organization, established under the management of Prerana Welfare Society to provide dedicated services to the children with Autism, Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy and Physical Disabilities. The School has made a humble beginning with 4 children and its academic year has started in April, 2004, with the sole aim of providing dedicated services to the mentally and Physically Challenged Children. The following are the aims and objectives of the society: To provide comprehensive and rehabilitative services to the Mentally Challenged Children in Self-Care, Speech therapy, Physiotherapy, Special Education, behaviour modification, Pre-Vocational & Vocational training. To establish sheltered workshops and absorb children who are trained in Vocational Skills.
