Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women, here, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with University of Missouri in the USA today to promote cooperation in Education, Training, Research & Development and sharing of knowledge on a long term basis. Present at the event were Kattesh V. Katti, M.Sc.Ed, PhD, DSC, FRSC, Curators’ Professor of Radiology and Physics Margaret Proctor Mulligan Distinguished Professor of Medical Research Director, University of Missouri Cancer Nanotechnology Platform, University of Missouri, Jana M Hawley, Prof and Dept Chair, Textile and Apparel Management, Univ of Missouri and S.Abhaya Kumar, Secretary General - Sri SSS Jain Educational Society.
Under this MoU, both the institutes will engage in cooperation in Research and Education and Dissemination of knowledge in the fields of common interest. Specifically, the two institutions will develop working relationships for collaborative research, and joint educational programs in Nanoscience, Nanotechnology, Green Nanotechnology, Textile Management and allied fields of mutual interest in sciences and humanities. The MoU will also permit research activities and joint research projects and will facilitate joint supervision of research candidates registered in either Institute working for short term summer/winter programs, doctoral or post graduate programs.
The two institutes will encourage exchange of researchers, faculty members and students between the two institutes. The exchange would be for carrying out a project activity at undergraduate or post-graduate levels or in research work with the consent of the concerned faculty members and the Departments. It would be for a maximum period of one semester, and limited to mutually agreed numbers. The students and researchers nominated for exchange will be of high scholarly standard, maturity and promise.
Both Institutes will encourage the sharing of knowledge resources like on-line video, web casting of courses and other scholarly and pedagogical materials between the two Institutes. Separate MOU’s will be signed with the deans of respective institutions for initiating joint 2+2 or 3+1 sciences and arts degree programs to allow students from Shri Shankaralal Sundarabai Shasun Jain College For Women, Chennai, India to complete 2 or three years in India and the reminder 2 or 1 years of their degree programs in various branches of sciences, management or arts at the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. In such cases, fees for the students from India students will be the same or as agreed upon for out of state students.
On signing the MoU, Mr. Abhaya Kumar, Secretary General - Sri SSS Jain Educational Society said “This is our first MoU signing with a foreign university to conduct joint research and educational activities. This collaboration with University of Missouri will benefit our students in terms of practical exposure and knowledge enhancement which will further help them in their professional lives. Students who benefit from such MoU will have global exposure and such experience always has an edge over the potential candidates at the time of recruitments”.
Mr.Kattesh V. Katti, Director, Cancer Nanotechnology Platform, Curators’ Professor of Radiology said “We are extremely proud to announce our first collaboration with an All Women Indian institute and are looking forward to give in the best of opportunities to each other. We will strive to provide a bigger platform for students both in India and back at home. With this MoU, we aim to strengthen our presence in India and nurture the talent of these highly competitive students at both the Institutes”.
Each institute will nominate one or two faculty as scientific contacts to initiate dialogues on education, research and product development fronts. Professor Kattesh V. Katti, Director, Cancer Nanotechnology Platform, Curators’ Professor of Radiology will serve as the contact faculty for the University of Missouri. Shri Abhaya Kumar Secretary - Sri S S Shasun Jain College for women, Managing Director, Shasun Pharma, will serve as the contact official for the Indian counterpart.

Shri Shankarlal Sundarbai Shasun Jain College for Women was established in 2005 under the auspices of Sri S S Jain Educational Society. The college offers 8 UG courses and 1 PG course in Shift 1 and 7 UG courses and 1 PG Diploma course in Shift 2. At present, it functions with student strength of more than 3800 and more than 100 faculty members.
