Add 25% to the quoted room rate to compensate for their creative accounting and the premium you'll pay on everything, especially internet.Stayed at the Leela for a week on business. The rate, booked by my Indian colleague, was quoted in dollars (just over $300/night). The restaurants at the Leela are good, but extremely pricey for India. The service was good, the exercise room in the spa was nice (7 treadmills, I think, plus ellipticals and bikes). The location, so close to the airport, is very convenient.What really stuck in my craw was some of the prices and their charge policy. The minibar in the room is extremely expensive. Any alcohol ordered at one of their restaurant is 3x as expensive as at other nice restaurants in Bangalore. If you're inclined to have a drink in your room, you can use the off-license liquor store in the attached Leela Galleria mall (bottom floor) and save 70%. Internet access comes out to almost $31/day, and my colleague's connection was very inconsistent. I had some problems with mine as well, though I usually chose the 1-hour connection for a "mere" $9.But the real surprise comes at checkout time. My quoted nightly rate was first converted into Rupees by tacking 5% onto the exchange rate. Then, of course, my card is charged in Rupees, so my U.S. bank will charge another 1 or 2% or whatever. So they're basically just helping themselves to a 5% uplift, and from what I can see, all I'm getting out of it is (1) protection against the Dollar-to-rupee rate dropping between when I book and when I stay, and (2) a quote in dollars instead of rupees so I don't have to do the math. In the end, my $310 rate was charged at $325. Over 7 nights, the Leela got an extra $105 out of me (and the Indian government got their own $13 extra through the 12% tax on the Leela's overcharge)."
