When in doubt, go for Chinese! That’s one of my favorite mantras- especially when it’s to do with food or home décor. Speaking of décor, I thought I’d dedicate this blog to Chinese garden stools, that I so adore. In my book, these versatile ceramic (sometimes porcelain) accessories can be used absolutely everywhere without looking out of place. I use them as garden seats, end tables, coffee tables or even as mere decorative pieces. Apart from the pretty Oriental accent they lend to a room, they are also pretty darned functional!

Chinese garden stools have slowly started pervading homes in India too, and usually bear traditional patterns. They are available in unique designs, styles, patterns and colors.

These dainty-looking seats date back to almost 1000 years. Traditionally, Chinese homes were built around a courtyard, making outdoor furniture essential. Initially, people used tree trunks and smooth rocks as seats. But, over the years, the quintessential Chinese garden stool came to be the preferred mode of seating.

Here are some features of Chinese stools:

  • Versatile

  • Available in colors aplenty

  • Each ceramic piece is unique

  • Don’t take up too much space

  • Durable

  • Handy and portable

  • Add a sense of tranquility to a space

Check out India Mart, Amazon and sweetcouch.com for some extremely lovely traditional Chinese stools. They can be bought for around Rs 10,000. You can use them indoors as side tables or plant stands.

These super-sleek electroplated metallic finish stools (in the picture below) are a perfect decorative piece for your living area.

These elaborate, chic stools (below) add a nice pop of color to a dull living room.

This classy stool (below) is perfect for resting your remote control or perhaps a chilled drink.

So what do you think? Going Chinese in home décor?
