Tips to prepare for the examination
It is a competitive type examination and students who participate are quite young. They would be highly benefited if they follow these tips for the examination.
- Revise syllabus - As there is no separate syllabus for the examination. The students should be very thorough with their school syllabus. Revision and re-revision is the best way. The students should keep in touch with every new development in the study subjects to make the most of their opportunity. The syllabus followed by the school is very crucial, and students should be well-versed with it.
- Follow a strict study schedule - A disciplined attitude towards studies can help. Having fixed hours of studies with dedicated slots for subjects is the best method. But parents and teachers should note that the student should not just study; they must have enough recreation in their time-table to feel rejuvenated and relaxed. A structured approach will help the students make the most of their time.
- Get concepts clear - As the olympiads mainly test the student’s concepts, the students must ensure that their conceptual knowledge is immaculate. If they have slightest doubts in any kind of concept, they should immediately seek help and resolve all their doubts. The basic and concept of each subject lay the foundation of the subject; it is the core of the Olympiads.
- Take notes - The students should make a practice of taking notes as it helps them grasp information faster. It would also help them revise and internalize difficult to comprehend concepts. Taking small notes also helps them understand the concepts in their own way.
- Solve mock papers - Solving previous years' papers and mock test papers will help the students get a fair idea about the type of questions that are expected. It would also give them enough practice for preparing for the actual examination. Doubts also get cleared in this process, further strengthening their concepts.
- Concentrate on English and Maths - These two subjects, along with general knowledge, are the crux of all examination. The students should pay special attention to their studies concerning these subjects. All subjects are essential in the examination, but maths would be of more importance if the student is aiming for maths olympiad.
