"I would recommend if the location is convenient. If not, I prefer the Hotel Metropolitan near Connaught Place.I recently completed a two night stay at the Taj Ambassador Hotel in New Delhi. The hotel caters to business travelers. I was on a business trip with two colleagues, so I had an opportunity to observe three different hotel rooms. As with all high-quality Indian hotels, we had to pass through security to enter the hotel upon arrival. Our bags were also screened. Check-in was relatively easy, though somewhat time consuming. It took each of us 7-8 minutes to complete the check-in transaction. The hotel personnel at the front desk all spoke excellent English, so language was not much of a barrier. Once we completed check-in, we left our bags with a porter and went to our separate rooms. The porter arrived with the bags within 10 minutes. My room was on the second floor and overlooked a construction site where the Delhi metro is expanding. Signs in the lobby apologized for any additional noise caused by the construction. In honesty, the construction was not particularly noisy; it seemed like most of the work being done did not require heavy machinery. However, I did feel a little uncomfortable with so many men working right outside my window, and me being relatively low to the ground. The men worked literally through the night, so I felt the need to always keep my shades drawn and did not use the charming balcony attached to my room.My room, to my surprise, had two twin beds in it. I thought this was quite unusual for a business hotel. The room itself was enormous, and contained a sleeping area and a sitting area with armchairs, a couch, and a coffee table. There was a desk alongside the wall that had the windows, and an enormous flat-screen tv on the desk (it was viewable from either bed). The other wall had a series of wardrobe closets that included a programmable safe and all the equipment needed to order laundry service. The furniture was mostly of a light wood with some intricate carving details that reminded me of a Swiss summer camp (I know, weird, but that's what I kept thinking of). It was a very old-fashioned style of decor. The room was equipped with a minibar with reasonably priced refreshments; however, I noticed the security seals on the miniature liquor bottles did not look fresh, like perhaps the bottles had been opened and resealed. The food was all properly sealed from what I could tell. Each day the room was refreshed with two new bottles of Aquafina water for no additional charge. The bathroom was also quite large and included a Western-style toilet, a sink with a sizeable counter, and a bathtub/shower with a large recessed windowsill for toiletries. The shower was fine--decent water pressure and temperature. The towels were a bit rough, but not so rough that they were uncomfortable to use.One complaint I have about the hotel is the damp, musty smell in my room. I did visit both of my colleagues' rooms and mine was the only one with this odor. It was quite noticeable and I never quite got used to it. The best way I have to describe it is that it was like my grandmother's house--but perhaps your grandmother's house smelled better than mine! I believe the odor came from the unattractive mustard-yellow carpeting in my room; both of my colleagues had hard-wood flooring in their rooms. I was also a bit more annoyed about the twin beds when I saw that both of my colleagues had king sized beds in their rooms. One of my colleagues learned from an employee that the hotel has separate sections for males and females traveling separately. I would never have noticed it if she hadn't found that out, but it is true that she and I were near each other (close to the elevators) and our male colleague was some distance away. The hotel featured free breakfast each morning in the Yellow Brick Road cafe. I enjoyed my dosa masala and my masala tea, as well as the heavenly fresh papaya. Breakfast was served buffet-style, with the chefs making dosas and eggs to order.Wireless internet access was an additional charge, as was printing in the business center. The lobby was spacious and cool (especially compared to the Delhi heat) and provided a comfortable area for us to conduct a small business meeting on the last morning of our stay. With many couches and fresh flowers, the lobby invites conversation and lingering.Overall we found the hotel staff quite pleasant to deal with. I particularly enjoyed the woman who works in the business center. The only other issue we had with the hotel is that my colleague's Blackberry disappeared. She is unsure where she last saw it, so it either fell out of her purse in the lobby or was removed from her bed in the hotel room. Either way, someone unscrupulous in the hotel took the Blackberry when they found it. Obviously my recommendation for the hotel is higher if the Blackberry was lost in the lobby and taken by a hotel guest than if it was removed from the room by staff. We have no way to know which is the true situation. It was an unfortunate black mark on an overall pleasant hotel stay."
