GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is the most preferred entrance exam—also can be viewed as a screening Test—of business schools, for admission of graduates. Analytical Writing (AW), Integrated Reasoning (IR), Quantitative, and Verbal Reasoning (VR) skills of the GMAT Test takers, are measured by the GMAT Test. GMAT is a highly competitive exam and the GMAT score determines the kind of business schools candidates can apply for. Oft times, one cannot say what a good GMAT score is and on a fundamental level, one needs to be aware of the mark allocation for each of the four sections in the GMAT Test.
Let us, in this article, take a look at the score range for each section of the GMAT Test. Continue reading.
The range of overall GMAT score is between 200 and 800, with almost 66% of GMAT Test takers accruing a score in the region of 400-600. The score range for the VR and quantitative sections is 0-60. In the VR section of the GMAT Test, a score of less than nine and more than 44 is rare and in the quantitative section, the score is often greater than seven and less than 50.
As a rule of thumb, answering all questions is indispensable, for each unanswered question will have a negative effect on the total score. Therefore, GMAT Test takers should equally prioritise all sections and questions during learning and writing, to give themselves a better chance of accruing an enviable GMAT score.
The verbal and quantitative sections of the GMAT Test are the only sections which contribute to a candidate’s total GMAT score. The AW and IR sections are scored independently and do not have an effect on the overall score. GMAT Test takers can also make a note of the fact that business schools place little to no significance on an entrant’s GMAT AW score.
The AW score is provided on the basis of a candidate’s analysis on an argument essay and ranges between 0-6. The IR score ranges from 1-8, with no partial credit provided. All responses towards an IR question have to be right, in order to be credited.
GMAT Test takers must refrain from panicking before and during the 210-minute GMAT exam and the best way to do so is prepare well. GMAT coaching centres in Delhi are aplenty and can be made use of by GMAT Test takers, who will be provided with comprehensive study material, have regular mock tests to test themselves and assess the areas where they need to improve, and also be guided expertly by trainers with many years’ experience behind them. Hard work is the most indispensable element to achieve an enviable GMAT score and intensive training, which candidates are put through by GMAT coaching classes, does help candidates gather confidence and also hone their analytical writing, integrated reasoning, quantitative, and verbal reasoning skills.
