One should not underestimate the benefits of word-of-mouth when it comes to hiring caterers, interior designers and decorators, packers and movers, to name a few local services. You must be extremely prudential before hiring such services, since involve a lot of your hard-earned money and also the possibility of irrecoverable losses. “It’s better to be safe than sorry” is one phrase a lot of us would have heard about or come across ourselves at some stage of our lives and it also holds true in this aspect of hiring a catering service. Why? Answers to follow … read on.
When we go to a relative, a friend or a colleague and ask them to put us in touch with a caterer, it does not always mean that we are clueless about finding a caterer for an upcoming occasion. Instead, we’re just being prudential and taking the necessary steps to ensure that our invitees have a rollicking time at the party and as the ‘host’, take satisfaction from how we served them, with none being more indispensable than food.
So let us say, you, as the organiser of an upcoming birthday party, are on the lookout for a birthday catering service that can serve the menu and in the party theme you have visualised. But since this is the first time you are organising an event, you want to search for and hire a caterer through someone in your family. Which is perfectly fine and by approaching them for one aspect of the party, you might garner crucial tips for organising the event as a whole.
The two aspects mentioned above are arguably the most fundamental and necessary of the lot. Presuming you are asking a family member who has already organised one or more events, they can open you up to the difficulties you might face during a party, what they learnt from their experience of organising an occasion and also, come up with suggestions for organising the event in the not too distant future.
Once you have had a chat with them and told about the upcoming occasion, they can imbibe your requirements, picture your exact needs and then put you in touch with a catering service. This might sound simple, but they are giving a solution for your requirement and one that is exactly in line with your needs, as well. Their helps are unlikely to end here, too.
Even after they have put you in touch with a catering service and presuming you too have decided to hire them for the upcoming occasion, your friend/relative can continue having periodic conversations with the catering service, conveying your expectations, which, let us tell you, will keep fluctuating as you keep thinking through organising the event, and reminding the caterers of the need for quality service at the party they will be catering to soon. These are the aspects that will follow after you have hired a catering service. But how can your family member who you have approached for help with finding a caterer, assist you in the hiring process?
Your family member can either put you in touch with a catering service and leave it up to you, or help you through the hiring process—which involves discussing and deciding on a contract fee, conveying the sessions for which the catering company must prepare and serve food and the food menu which needs to be prepared. Having known a catering service and agreed to refer you to them or vice versa, they will be in a position to negotiate the prices in your favour and reduce the fee demanded by the caterer. This aspect, more than anything else, can help you because you might have drawn a separate budget for the birthday party catering. The catering service might also be willing to reduce the fee which they demanded because their former customer has referred to his/her family member and there is a prospect more such references. This process of hiring is also likely to ensure that they serve you credibly and make a good impression, for both of your benefits.
Being able to gather new ideas for organising an event and the potential of hiring a resourceful and reliable caterer at an affordable and enviable contract fee, are two of the great benefits of word-of-mouth. If you have experience of having hired a catering service previously, then, yes, you can search for and hire a caterer on your own. But, if this is your first time and/or you are a little unsure about how to hire a caterer, then you are advised to harness word-of-mouth for hiring a catering service.
