We will now look at a number of different ways fordecorating a dining room to give it a whole newlease on life, without breaking the bank.

1. Why not cover the table with some fabric inorder to hide any ugly surfaces? You couldthen use the colors in the fabric as the basisfor the new décor for the room.

2. The use of inexpensive accessories will help tochange the whole appearance of your diningroom. Get some candles and candleholders inorder to provide a different look and feel toyour room.

3. Why not make a wall hanging for the room. Ifyou can, purchase some Chinese posters (theseare inexpensive) as they are easy to turn intowall hangings.

4. Why not see if where you live has a furniturebank. This is where you can arrange to dropoff any old pieces of furniture that you haveand no longer want. Then all you need to do ischoose a piece from what they have there toreplace the piece you have donated. You mayfind the ideal dining table and chairs that youwant for the theme of your room.

5. The rule of three. Instead of placing itemstogether as even numbered groups, do it in oddnumbered groups instead. Where 2 candlestickstogether look symmetrical, by adding a bowl oranother smaller candlestick holder, you willgive the element of surprise. Plus, by mixingcolors and textures in order to form groups ofthree in a room, it will provide you with awhole new look also.

6. As previously mentioned, when looking toredecorate your living room, move thefurniture. You can also do this in your diningroom. Instead of the table being horizontal tothe walls, why not place it in the room at anangle (but make sure you have enough space towalk round it). Also, move any cupboards etc.,away from walls, and instead place these incorners of the room at angles. By doing this,you are giving your dining room a whole newlook.

7. Why not build and attach a fold down shelf toone of your dining room walls? It willcertainly make it easier for you whenentertaining, and can be used as a buffet areaalso.

8. How about giving your dining room cabinets anew lease on life and paint them to accentuatethe color of the room? Check at your localpaint supply store or DIY store, as well asonline for advice on how to paint unusualsurfaces.

9. Use a mirror in order to create light and spacein your dining room. Frame one in such a waythat it creates a mock window. You could evenuse one by placing it behind some artisticbelongings in order to highlight them from allsides.

10. If your dining room chairs are looking a littletired and dated, then cover them withslipcovers…why not try making some coversyourself? Why not purchase another tableclothor two that matches the one you use for yourtable, and upholster them in this as well?

11. Finally, why not repaint the room? You do notneed to do the whole room, just paint one ortwo walls with an accent color. Maybe go for acolor which will accent all the various aspectsof the room, and integrates well with any softfurnishings that you have.
