Why Your Washing Machine Won't Spin?
Today, laundry is no longer a dreaded affair. Thanks to washing machines and their state-of-art features. However, at unforeseen scenarios, the machine might fail to perform.
The two types of washing machines face specific difficulties each. Such as:
Some of the common causes that disrupt the spin action in a semi-automatic washing machine are:
- The level difference – A slanted machine will see clothes coming out wet. The tub should be at a level which facilitates proper spinning movement. Improper placement prevents the washing machine from starting the washing process.
- Overflow of clothes – Adding clothes greater than the capacity of the tub prevents the washing machine from moving forward in the process.
- Over-heated motor – In the semi-automatic machine, washing and spinning actions happen in two different tubs. Running the machine for a substantial duration overheats the motor and the coupler. This disrupts the spin process. Allow the machine to rest for 30 minutes and redo the process.
- Blocked drainpipe – Lint, buttons, coins sometimes get stuck in the washing machine. It creates a blockage in the drainage pipe and disrupts the functioning of the washing machine. Your clothes will stay wet and carry excessive water. The contaminated water (dirty water of the washed clothes) overflows from the drainage pipe into the tub.
- Lid door improperly shut – Many washing machines need to be immaculately closed. If there is any gap left, the machine will not function. Shut the lid properly and restart the action.
Automatic
Automatic machines fall into two categories. Such as top-load and front load. Some of the common causes that disrupt the spin action in an automatic washing machine are:
- Belt detachment – A drive belt rotates the washer. Check if the belt has fallen. Moving the appliance frequently loosens the belt and detaches it.
- Motor failure – A motor makes the tub to rotate. A damaged motor will abruptly stop the rotation function. To resolve the issue, change the coupler or the circuitry depending on the damage.
- Non-functional lid switch - For the washer to function, seal the lid tightly. Even if you place the lid in a proper position, the rotation might not start. The reason can be a faulty switch that prevents the washer from rotating.
Top-load – A problematic clutch prevents the washer from reaching the necessary speed for the spinning action. When called for professional help, the technician may oil the clutch instead of replacing it with a new one.
