Thiruveezhimizhalai S.Kanaka daughter of a doctor couple hailing from Thiruveezhimizhalai, is a musician, dancer, choreographer, composer, teacher and a vocalist who accompanies dance recitals too. She is the organizer of Veezhimizhalai Natyanjali and managing a dance school Sankara Natyalaya at Adambakkam and C.L.R.I (Adyar) at Chennai. She is from a highly educated family as her grandfathers are doctors, one in medicine and other in agriculture.  Thiruveezhimizhalai, her birth place is very famous for Nathaswaram as that place yielded Padmashris and Sangeetha Kalanidhis in the same art. She is a child prodigy learnt music from ‘Padmashri’ Dakshinamurthy Pillai- known as Thiruveezhimizhalai Brothers a famous Nagaswaram maestro. After his demise she started learning from Shri.Ramesh Kumar of Thiruveezhimizhalai. Now she is under the tutelage of Smt. Bhushany Kalyanaraman who is the wife and prime disciple of Tanjore.S.Kalyanaraman. Her mother ‘Natanamamani’ Dr. Uma Subramaniam is her dance guru and her mother is the direct disciple Vazhoor Ramaiah Pillai.
