Chennai Theatre Academy was founded by people with extensive experience in theatre and acting and by people trained in universities and in the nation’s premier acting schools. We believe that acting can be learnt technically. Learning the intricacies of acting and its guidelines , getting to know the types of acting and learning them is essential for all those who seek to participate as an actor either in cinema or in theatre . Chennai Theatre Academy , in its journey wants to implement this vision. Chennai Theatre Academy is ready to teach new actors about the intricacies of acting, and allow experienced actors to work in theatre productions and to improve acting skills in cinema through continuous practice . Acting is a technical artform . We wish to create actors with imagination , who understand themselves and are with a clear vision about their body, voice and mind . We also intend to dismiss the idea that theatre acting and cinema acting are different and to help students understand the different forms of acting and to create a deep and a meaningful discussion about acting Chennai theatre Academy will be run by trainers who have been formally trained in National School of Drama ,Koothu-p-pattari (Chennai) , Pondicherry Central University – Performing arts department and the trainers will also have a vast experience and deep understanding about acting . Basic acting course and Advanced acting course( which focusses entirely on realistinc acting) are the two courses that are offered as full time course and as part time course . On finishing the course students will have the opportunity to work with ‘Medai’ theatre group . Trained actors from other acting institutes are also invited . Indian cinema right now is in need of trained and talented artists, with that in mind Chennai Theatre Academy’s Casting Agency will also help production houses to identify actors and also train the selected actors for their part in movies, plays , short films , serials and web-series . Acting guidelines , practicing methodologies , translated plays, Tamil plays and theatre related books will be published by Chennai Theatre Academy’s Medai Publication . Also through continuous screenings and meetings Chennai Theatre Academy plans to have a healthy discussion on acting and also plans to take it forward .
