House of Stray Animals India is a non-profitable charitable organization for welfare and care of stray animals in Delhi-NCR region. House of Stray Animals India was founded by Mr. Sanjay Mahapatra in March 2011. After preparing grounds for a systematic work by renting a 4000 square feet plot nearby his home and constructing a proper ventilated shelter for animals by his own expenses, this organization was set up with a well-established shelter facility.   Later on, services like free casualty van for wounded or sick animals, veterinary doctor availability with free treatment of sick and needy stray animals, cremation of animals losing their life in road accidents and sterilization of animals to avoid over population and provide them with a healthy life span was started. As we have noticed that most of the stray animals in these remote areas die of starvation, we provide them with fresh nutritious food every day. If a sick or injured animals is noticed, we quickly take it to our shelter and take care of it for as long as he gets well and if he is seriously injured and shows no signs or little signs of being fit, we keep it in our shelter in an isolation so that the other animals don’t get infected at all. If, unfortunately, an animal passes away, we bury its body in a proper peaceful manner.   Forming a shelter didn’t happen at once. Mr. Sanjay Mahapatra and his team started slowly by contributing a share of his salary into this good cause and brick by brick, built a shelter for these homeless and speechless creatures. Later on, help started to come as more and more people joined hands in this godly cause. He and his team got help from labour class people as well as the rickshaw pullers. His morale eventually became high as he started doing his work in a more efficient manner. Then he opened a small OPD for treatment of sick and injured stray animals via a proper channel and in a completely sterile environment. Till date, he is housing more than 50 stray dogs and is providing them with a nutritious meal twice a day. The nutritious meal includes rice, chicken, egg, cottage cheese, oatmeal, biscuits, bread, etc. Other than that, all the other stray animals living by the roadside and also fed the same meal with the utmost affection. More than 125 dogs are fed daily. The most beautiful thing about this whole feeding thing is that the all the animals expect him daily and respond to one horn of his car and come running towards him for his warm affection and food. All the roadside dogs are vaccinated too so that they become harmless as well as stay healthy. He celebrates birthdays of all the dogs too. The level of his affection towards these animals can be seen by the fact that he celebrates all the major festivals like Holi, Diwali, etc. with these animals in the first place.   If a stray animal is seen dead due to a road accident or some other reason, quick action is taken and the animal is buried properly. His number is the helpline number on which people can call anytime and seek for help. This eliminates the possibility of infection in the environment around the accidental area as well as keeps the areas clean. In his free time, he creates awareness amongst school children and teaches them the various ways to help these little animals in all the possible ways. He has made a documentary movie involving various advantages of having a stray dog as a pet and has made a wise effort to convince people to actually adopt a stray dog. The movie also comprises of various awareness issues related to stray animals. He is planning to show the documentary in as many schools as possible as mass media is the best way to communicate on a large scale basis.   Moreover, he keeps a track record of each and every dog’s vaccination dates and provides them with the vaccinations on the decided dates only. His future prospects are endless. With sufficient help, he is willing to start a full time ABC Programme which includes sterilization of stray animals using fully sterilized and disinfected instruments. Moreover, he is willing to provide roadside dogs with shelters in their respective territories only so that they live freely yet happily and fully. He is willing to start a fulltime awareness programme in which the volunteers from his organization will go to various schools and institutions and create awareness among common people about this serious issue. He is also willing to organize free camps and rallies to stop this cruelty on animals.   House of Stray Animals India wants the public to join hands with it because its main motto is to give every animal its due and it is only possible if more and more people come and join this organization and help the cause. There are 2 visiting veterinary doctors, 1 para veterinary, 1 driver, 3 administration staff members and 1 housekeeper in this organization. But all it wants is people’s support and will to do something for these helpless creatures because Man is dog’s idea of what a God is.
