Red Cross Nightingales Trust Dementia Day Care, based in Hyderabad, India, is part of Nightingales Medical Trust (NMT). NMT, as it is known today, began its humble journey as Nightingales Home Health Services (NHHS) in 1996 from a garage in Sadashivnagar, Bangalore. A pioneering service back then, the concept of Home Health Services was the brainchild of two people who were dedicated to helping senior citizens and yearned to make a difference in the field of elder healthcare and ageing. These two visionaries are Nightingales Medical Trust's co-founders Dr Radha S. Murthy and Mr S. Premkumar Raja. Dr Radha S. Murthy, an alumnus of St. John's Medical College, Bangalore has a brilliant academic career to her credit. An important doctor with over 30 years of medical experience, she is also a recipient of the 2003 Rajyothsava Award conferred by the State of Karnataka in recognition of her services. Mr S. Premkumar Raja, a Social Entrepreneur, holds an M.Phil Degree from Annamalai University. He has over 28 years of experience as a Community Welfare and Healthcare Administrator, with mother and child healthcare as his initial area of interest. He has meticulously planned and successfully implemented various innovative social and health care projects all over India. Dr Radha and Mr Raja, while working in a private hospital in Bangalore realised that they shared a common vision. The difficulty faced by patients who needed home care and the distraught of the family members upon unavailability of these services became a matter of concern to both of them. Hence, they took it upon themselves to find a way to meet the needs of the patients requiring quality healthcare at their doorstep. This resulted in the establishment of the Nightingales Home Health Services (NHHS) in January 1996. The primary objective of NHHS was to provide all possible medical care to the needy patients, mostly elders, disabled and bedridden, who had difficulty in visiting hospitals and waiting in long queues for treatment and attention. With the non-availability of such services earlier, Dr Radha and Mr Raja became the pioneers in India to provide comprehensive 24 hours home care that included handling emergencies and offering, personalised and affordable medical services at home. When NHHS was conceptualised and started, the diverse fields the organisation would grow into were not envisaged. While interacting with the beneficiaries of home health care, mostly senior citizens, it was realised that there was an urgent need for a service greater than just medical help. Apart from health issues, elders also had to deal with loneliness, emotional problems and financial insecurities. Dr Radha and Mr Raja felt that, if necessary facilities to cater to physical, emotional, fiscal and social needs of elders could be created, it could help seniors cope with the ageing process and to age with dignity. Thus, Nightingales Medical Trust (NMT), a non-governmental, secular and charitable organisation was founded in the year 1998 to alleviate the different problems faced by the elderly. Striving to strengthen family bonds and promote community-based support systems, the Trust has conceived and established various innovative and need based projects focusing on dementia care, active ageing, elder abuse, social integration, economic empowerment and capacity building. Due to operational reasons, in April 2014, the management of Nightingales Home Health Services was handed over to M/s. Medwell Ventures Private Limited which has been continuing the home care services under the same name. This handover does not affect the functioning of Nightingales Medical Trust in any way.   VISION A society where elders are healthy, happy, empowered and socially integrated. MISSION To enhance the quality of life of elders through innovative and appropriate community-based support systems, comprehensive geriatric care with special focus on dementia and active ageing, combating elder abuse, skill development, economic empowerment, public education, advocacy and capacity-building programs.
