Organized a birthday party through this catering service. The total amount which I paid was Rs.14,000 for 35 people. It was for dinner party and the food was non veg. The food taste was good and all the dishes were nice. I am glad to use their service.

An authentic Bengali restaurant, with well done interiors offering a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere, you could relish on all kinds of Bengali fish curries, apart from other Bengali delicacies. The tiger prawns cooked in coconut milk were juicy and delicious, so were the Chitol fish curry, Bhetki paturi and mochar chop. And ending my meal with Bengali sweets was an added delight! Prices are a bit high, since this can be compared with a restaurant of a really good class.

I had friends visiting me from California, and I had promised to feed them every kind of food (well, at least every kind of good food) that Bangalore had to offer. And so, on the eve of their departure, I took them to deliciously surprising Esplanade - a place that is so hidden, that every time I get on to the 60 feet road, I miss it and then worry that it might have shut down!Everything that you think you know about small specialty restaurants, comes true here. The entrance is magnificent, starkly while and embedded with half chopped beer bottles that greet you as the slightly grey light falls on them. followed by some spectacular pictures of Ye Olde Calcutta from the presidency days. The 3 of us found a corner and settled down for the evening. We would have preferred some wine but unfortunately they have stopped serving alcohol at the restaurant. Fortunately, the Aampora Sharbat is divine - Frosted, spicy, tangy and with that zest of cumin that only the most discerning know how to use, this is an absolutely gorgeous way to start a meal. Accompanying it were some of the chops - the deep batter fried vegetables, and fish rolls, accompanied by delicious mint and mustard chutneys, finely spiced shredded and pickled onions and cabbage. For our first course, the maitre de recommended that we try some of their lightly simmered, delicately flavoured, Cholar Daal, which leaves a soothing sweetness on your tongue without making it stereotypically sweet. Along with the deliciously fluffy luchis and the khastor kachori accompanied by a sweet and sour mango pickle, a bowl of fried papads and the piece de resistance - banana flowers in mustard sauce with coconuts, set the right tone for the evening. I also love the raw lime and chillies on a toothpick that accompany the food for those who want to infuse the food with the zest of a well bitten chilli. The second course saw fish on the table. But this was not an ordinary fish. The Daab Dhingri, which is served in a hollowed tender coconut, spiked with a strong nose-lingering taste of mustard and the prawns melting in your mouth is the next best thing to heaven. On the side, we also got the Mocha Dhokar Dalna, which will make you wake up and smell the flavours as you bite into the succulent dumplings. All this with a side of steaming hot, yellow, sweetened rice sprinkled generously with roasted cashews and overnight soaked raisins saw us smiling more than talking. We were stuffed by the time the meal was done - It took the better half of 90 minutes because the service is impeccably timed. They don't rush you, don't intrude in your conversations, don't hover menacingly over your table, but there is always somebody with a smile around, ready for us to order more. However, to eat in a Bengali restaurant and not end on a sweet note would be blasphemous. So we loosened our waist-bands (well, belts really) and got our game face on, to be faced by mishti dohi and the always surprising (pleasantly, that is) baked rosogullas and the cheque. Some would think that Esplanade, for its size (literally has 8 tables - reservations on weekends are a good thing) is perhaps slightly on the pricey side. But I would say that any restaurant that delivers more than it promises - heritage Bengali cuisine - can eat me out of home and I won't care. There are other options for Bengali food in the Koramangala vicinity, and Ive been to all of them, and a couple of them are actually good for a quick cheap bite. But when you want to feel like the Bhadralok of Bengal, your money is right on Esplanade.
